Homestead Soap

I love to collect old recipe books and boxes with handwritten recipes. In these I was finding recipes for various crafts and soaps. Adding these to my family's soap recipes I have developed a line strictly from the Great Lakes region and use only the ingredients available to the homesteader at that time. I use no dyes, artificial scents or modern imported ingredients. The herbs, floras', fruits and vegetables are raised here without chemicals or were easily available for the homemaker. These are pure soap not a detergent and will have the natural fragrance of their ingredients instead of the modern perfume smell. Each herb or other ingredient has its own use for your complexion and skin need. A history ofeach soap is included. These soaps are very long lasting. Packaged in muslin bags.

Courier Du Bois
Since this recipe and its ingredients comes from the Copper Harbor region of Lake Superior it seemed fitting to name it after the men and women who lived and worked there. This is a great hand soap and was used to clean the cast iron cookware. It removes odors even though the ingredients calls for none other than bear grease! It also calls for coffee grounds and "big lake sand". This has been a favorite with both men and women and I am only able to make it twice a year. No, it does not smell like bear grease but of coffee.
